Jerry is a commanding, spellbinding singer steeped in Irish traditions. He has a deep & wide knowledge of the songs beginning with singers in many generations of his own family. He, along with some others, runs the foremost traditional singing club in Ireland, An Góilín, and is an expert Irish set dancer & teacher.
The workshop will cover the work of Ireland's most prolific folk song collector Tom Munnelly (Jerry’s brother-in-law) who died in 2007. He will speak of Tom’s connections with the Irish Traveller community & their role in the preservation of Irish traditional music & song. He will also focus on Tom’s great work in West Clare & the musicians and singers he recorded there. He will play some field recordings & also give people the opportunity to sing & include some of the material in their personal repertoire.

13:30 Traditional singers and musicians and dancers of West Clare and their role in the preservation of a 'disappearing' culture as recorded by Tom Munnelly

15:30 Review of the day and discussion on the 'tradition' and its place in modern culture.
