The New Phoenix Jazz Band, led by bassist Jeremy Forde and with Jazz vocalist Christine Adams, is back at the Edinburgh Jazz 'n Jive Club!
Formed in 2011, the octet focuses on Jazz of the first half of the 20th century, exploring, through arrangements, transcriptions and compositions (produced by band members), the rich tradition of the vibrant, emotive and refined music of the period. Expect a fantastic mix of Dixieland / New Orleans and swinging Jazz standards, all perfectly performed for both dancing and listening.
In addition to Christine and Jerry, the band's line-up includes Dick Lee and Martin Foster (reeds), Lorne Cowieson (trumpet), Bill Jones (trombone), Phil Adams (banjo/guitar) and Jack Wilson (drums).
The Edinburgh Jazz 'n Jive Club offers on Fridays live Jazz music in a relaxed club house atmosphere, with a bar and an excellent, wooden dance floor. The music is generally suitable for dancing Foxtrot and Swing (Lindy Hop, Shag, Balboa). Come along to listen to superb Jazz and to dance the evening away!
No need to book in advance, just come along! The entry fee is £12 for non-members and £10 for members. Entry is free for accompanying carers and accompanied children. The fee can be paid at the door by card and cash. The main entrance is from Bangholm Terrace, with step-free access from Warriston Gardens corner Inverleith Row.
