About this Event

Join us for an early celebration of International Women's Day with psychotherapist, Jennifer Cox and journalist, Sam Parker as they explore women’s rage and the ways in which suppressing anger can be detrimental.

Women are Angry

In a world where patience is a virtue and being a good girl is for life, women are never allowed to truly express their anger - and it is making us ill. After a lifetime of being told to repress it, to hide it away and fear it, anger has begun to manifest in female bodies in myriad ways we can't control. And the results are alarming.

In this powerful and eye-opening book, psychotherapist Jennifer Cox takes us on a journey from cradle to grave revealing how, at every stage of our lives, women are conditioned not to speak out or 'make a fuss'. Jennifer draws on her wealth of therapeutic experience to show us how to tune in to our feelings of frustration and offers us the tools to express what we have subdued for so long.

Good Anger

We are used to complaining there is too much anger in the world. But what about the cost of having too little? And what if, instead of fearing anger, we learned to use it wisely?

In Good Anger, journalist Sam Parker investigates how one of our most complex emotions became a taboo and the cost that suppressing it has on our mental and physical health, relationships and society. He argues that, rather than trip us up or fill us with shame, anger can be turned into a life-enhancing source of bravery, purpose and self-respect.

Drawing on insights from psychology, ancient philosophy and emotional science, Parker looks at the gendered expectations around anger, how repressed rage shows up in our bodies, and the crucial role processing anger plays in treating depression and anxiety. We learn how understanding anger can improve every facet of our lives, from love to creativity to professional success.

Psychotherapist Jennifer Cox is the new go-to voice on global mental health and feminism. Her book, Women Are Angry, won The Times and Sunday Times Best Self-Help Book of the Year, and she co-hosts the hit podcast Women Are Mad.

Sam Parker is an award-winning journalist and writer who lives in Kent with partner and their baby daughter. He works as senior editor at British GQ and writes regularly for the Guardian, Observer, Times and others. Good Anger, a blend of memoir and popular psychology about learning to love a taboo emotion, is his first book.
