Dog Logistics:
One dog will work scent scenarios at a time and work sessions will take place both Indoors and Outdoors at: Coldbrook Lions Hall

The Clinics
1) Scent, working at or equal to Advanced/Excellent level Skill Building Saturday May 31, 2025 9:00-4:30
2) Excellent/Elite/Master Skill building and Trouble-shooting Sunday June 1, 2025 9:00-4:30

1) Saturday Session: The Saturday Skill Building session 9:00 – 4:30
Class Limit – 10 working positions, 12 auditors
A working knowledge of Scent Theory, canine anatomy and body language enables a handler to understand how odor/scent behaves in all types of environmental conditions. A clear understanding of scent movement provides the handler the benefit of supporting their dog to finesse successful searches in sports and avocations such as Nose and Scent Work, Search and Rescue, Tracking, etc.
The morning classroom session addresses odors and how they are impacted by different types of environmental factors.
We will also explore a dog’s respiratory and odor processing anatomy.
In the afternoon, working participants will engage their dogs in various search problems.
Auditors will be assigned two working teams to watch and observe changes in body language breathing pattern, handler inflections, etc..

Note: This session is open to all levels from just beginning to fine tuning skills at the Master level. Working slots will attend the short class portion for each topic and then practice each of the specific aspects of the skill. Auditing slots will attend the class portion and observe and help evaluate working teams.
2) Sunday Session: The Sunday Excellent/Elite/Master Level Scent skill building and troubleshooting work session 9:00 – 4:30
Class Limit: 10 Working Positions; 12 Auditors
These working teams will have competed at the Excellent/Elite/Master levels and at a minimum are working with Wintergreen and Pine and either or both Thyme/Anise
The objective of this session will be to assist handlers in understanding how to work with their canine partner more effectively, work for a longer duration, understand and react to the odor movement promoted by changes in topography, vegetation, man-made structures, room air ventilation and internal building structures.
We will use these tools to build your dog’s working independence and accuracy, facilitate your support and boost the joy and ensuing rewards.
The Trouble-shooting tool building will focus at a minimum on three key topics of scent discord and K9 handling regardless of the skill level of the working team.
A. Recused or Siloed odor - e.g. Odor that is stalled in corners and room edges
B. High hides – hides above the working height of the dog. May be found by dog via scent drop to the ground but are difficult for the dog to then source upwards
C. Convergent Odors - distinctly different odors that are placed separately from each other, but the scent plumes overlap and converge. Can be difficult for the dog to splice the odors and work them back to each separate hide.
D. K9/Handler Work relationship – A frequent conundrum for handlers at the higher levels is to determine where they should be in the scent venue, how much body and line pressure to use and when to step in/step out to enable the dog to calibrate and drive to the strongest source

Auditors will be assigned two working teams to watch and observe changes in body language breathing pattern, handler inflections, etc. .
