Original jazz/funk/rock compositions and new twists on their favorite tunes from Steely Dan, to Fiona Apple, to Jimmy Cliff, to Joni Mitchell, etc. Jenifer Freebairn / Vocals & Piano: Growing up in a music family in Los Angeles, Jen had an intimate view of many artists she admired, and has been music-obsessed ever since. She was a flautist and choir singer as a kid, but when songwriting came to call, she learned piano and composition by ear and honed her skills over many years with her band and as a session musician. She writes mostly at the piano, though she also loves composing on old drum machines and vintage electronic gear for fresh perspectives. Her early love of jazz, funk, and blues continues to be a deep influence no matter what she’s singing. Music is her ride and refuge. Following sounds that move her has been the best way she has found to move past dead ends and around blind curves, while still going right through the middle of everything.

Mitch Tobias: Electric, Acoustic & Slide Guitars, Piano: MItch has always been surrounded by music. His maternal grandfather, Van Alexander, was a popular arranger and big band leader in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, and his three great uncles on his father’s side were Songwriter Hall of Famers whose heyday was the Tin Pan Alley era – in the 30’s and 40’s. Harry, Henry and Charlie Tobias penned such post wartime hits as “Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree”, “Sweet & Lovely”, and “It’s A Lonesome Old Town”. Tobias’ sound is easy to describe: It’s equal parts pseudo-Baroque reggae doused with generous amounts of mid-autumn 1974 funk, embodies a penchant for odd time signatures – but making them not-so-odd-feeling, some of it is appropriate for performing massages to, some well suited for driving in the rain, some better for driving in a car without AC, with all the windows down, always excited to gleefully crush cliches, and new age in the most punk rock of ways. But don’t try to pigeonhole him.
