Creative Music Series Presents New Jazz in Arlington!
Providence RI guitarist and composer Jeff Platz presents an exciting new group called New Root System. We're pleased to bring this music to Arlington with the help of the Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture.

New Root System has been performing together since 2023 with a focus on improvised music and original compositions. In 2024 the ensemble performed as a featured group in Stephen Drury’s Enchanted Circle series at New England Conservatory of Music. Currently the group is recording their first album scheduled for release in the spring 2025. In April of 2025 New Root System will return to NEC to perform excerpts from composer Cornelius Cardew’s work, Treaties. This performance will take place in Jordan Hall in conjunction with Mr. Drury’s Callithumpian consort.
Jeff Platz has performed at New York City's What Is Jazz Festival, the Heidelberg Jazz Festival, Amsterdam's Crossing Borders festival, the Munster International Jazz festival, the Bia Jazz Festival in Milan Italy and the FIMA festival for improvised music in Mexico City. He has recorded for labels such as Umland records, Setola di Maiale, Spore Print, and Evil Rabbit Records. Platz has performed with Daniel Carter, Joe Morris, Stephen Haynes, Damon Smith, Tony Malaby, Michael Attias, John Lockwood, and Matt Crane, and in Mexico City with Gabriel Lauber, Itzam Cano, Adriana Camanco Torres. In Europe Jeff has collaborations with Meinrad Kneer, Jan Klare, Bill Elgart, and Jorg Fischer. Since 2018 Jeff has curated Modern Sounds, a monthly music series in Providence Rhode Island, featuring improvising musicians from Boston, Providence, New York, Europe, and beyond.
