Join us for a powerful, community-centered workshop exploring Dunham Technique, led by dancer and educator Megan Rakeepile.Developed by the legendary Katherine Dunham, Dunham Technique fuses modern dance with Afro-Caribbean movement traditions and centers cultural expression, rhythm, and embodied storytelling. In this session, Megan will guide participants through grounded, rhythmic combinations with an emphasis on breath, flow, and the deep connection between body and spirit.
This workshop is both movement and mindset — an opportunity to explore the lineage, cultural roots, and liberatory possibilities within Dunham Technique. Expect to move, sweat, and engage fully with your whole self.
About the Instructor:
Megan Rakeepile, a Buffalo, NY native, brings over 30 years of dance experience with a focus on Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Fusion techniques rooted in the African diaspora. She trained at Miss Barbara School of Dance, Buffalo City Ballet, and NYSSSA, earning her dance degree from the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts in 2008. Megan furthered her training at Ballet Creole in Toronto and performed with the renowned Garth Fagan Dance Company. Deeply committed to community-centered work, she has led arts programs across Buffalo in collaboration with schools, churches, and health organizations, and currently serves as Project Manager for the Arts That Heal program at the Community Health Center of Buffalo. Megan is a 2023 recipient of the NYS Choreographers Initiative Grant and the Community Cares Grant, supporting her advocacy for emerging artists and accessible, inclusive arts spaces.
