Season 19! Next up: Dawn Clement & Steve Kovalcheck !
Pianist/vocalist Dawn Clement and guitarist Steve Kovalcheck bring a rare blend of intimacy, virtuosity, and playful spontaneity to the duo setting. Their performances are deeply conversational weaving together lyrical interplay, daring improvisation, and a shared love of melodic storytelling.

In this special concert, the duo will feature selections from Clement’s forthcoming release Dear Ms. Dearie (out in May on Origin Records) celebrating the wit, elegance, and understated swing of Blossom Dearie. With fresh arrangements and inventive harmonic landscapes, Clement and Kovalcheck honor Dearie’s charm and sophistication while bringing their own modern sensibility to the music.

The result is a performance that feels both timeless and vividly present - heartfelt, swinging, and full of surprise.

DUO BIO

Dawn Clement and Steve Kovalcheck are a dynamic duo in the world of modern creative music, each bringing a wealth of artistry, depth, and collaborative spirit to their projects.

Dawn Clement, a celebrated pianist, vocalist, and composer, has been a prominent figure in jazz for over two decades. Known for her innovative approach, she seamlessly blends jazz traditions with new sonic explorations, balancing lyricism, rhythmic vitality, and fearless improvisation. Her career includes performances with acclaimed artists such as Ingrid Jensen, Jane Ira Bloom, and Julian Priester. She has recorded with drummer Matt Wilson and the GRAMMY Award-winning vocal ensemble, säje. Clement’s newest recording as a leader, Dear Ms. Dearie, celebrates the wit and elegance of Blossom Dearie and will be released in May on Origin Records. She currently serves as Associate Professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver and has recently been appointed Artistic Director of the Centrum Jazz Workshop.

Joining forces with Clement is guitarist Steve Kovalcheck, renowned for his expressive tone, harmonic sophistication, and inventive improvisation. After working professionally in Nashville and New York, Kovalcheck has called Colorado home since 2007. He has performed and recorded with the trio Akiko/Hamilton/Kovalcheck, featuring the late Akiko Tsuruga on Hammond B3 organ and legendary drummer Jeff Hamilton. He also performs with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. His latest trio release, Buck Shot Blues, is out now on Origin Records. In addition to his performing career, Kovalcheck serves on the faculty of the DownBeat Award-winning jazz studies department at the University of Northern Colorado and presents clinics nationally and internationally.

Together, Clement and Kovalcheck form an engaging and deeply conversational duo, captivating audiences with performances that are intimate, inventive, and joyfully spontaneous.
