Jazz Vespers in the Common Room at Zion Lutheran Church of Pittsfield is back on Wednesday, January 7, at 6:00PM. The event is free, and it caps off an afternoon of opening Zion's historic sanctuary to the public. The Common Room will be open 3:00-5:30PM for prayer, stillness, and rest, and free pizza will be served at 5:30PM before Vespers begins. Our house ensemble consists of Marisa Massery, vocals; Dan Broad, bass; Sturgis Cunningham, drums; and Ben Kohn, piano.
Vespers is the name of an evening service of prayer and song that has been observed in the Christian tradition for over 15 centuries.
Jazz Vespers presented by Zion Lutheran Church blends contemporary jazz and blues into that historic tradition. Founded in 2014, Jazz Vespers returns in 2026 after a pandemic-related hiatus.
Jazz Vespers is held on the first Wednesday of each month. All free-will donations are used to directly support the Jazz Vespers ministry.
