About this Event
Born in New York City, *Mikole E. Kaar* began studying clarinet at the age of nine. He was mentored by the great Clifford Scott — whom he knew growing up simply as "Scotty" — and looked up to R&B heroes like Junior Walker and King Curtis. He continued to perfect his craft as both a clarinet and flute major in college, and has since become one of the most versatile woodwind artists in jazz, playing tenor and soprano sax, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, piano, and bassoon.
Mikole's career has taken him around the world. In 1985 he traveled to Europe to play jazz and released his original album Back to the Heart on Germany's Heliocon Records the following year. Back in the U.S., he has played with Russell Freeman, Ti Lavitz, David Benoit, Johnny Hammond Smith, The Temptations, Bo Diddley, Joe Cocker, Rita Moreno, Otis Rush, The Drifters, The Coasters, and The Platters. His work has appeared on motion picture soundtracks, and he has performed at international jazz festivals across Europe, Hong Kong, and beyond.
Jazz @ Noon is the Blue Room's free lunchtime concert series — an hour of live music in one of Kansas City's most storied rooms. Step away from the workday and into 18th & Vine. Free admission.
