Jazz LIVE at Marine View with the Jun Iida Quintet

Trumpeter composer educator and recording artist Jun Iida (Joon Ee-da) has quickly established himself as a much sought after musician (www.juniidamusic.com). He has performed extensively throughout the US at notable jazz clubs theaters and festivals. The son of Japanese immigrants Iida’s mother a semi-professional Koto (Japanese harp) player had a profound influence on his love of music. Exposed to classical music during his formative years he eventually catered to jazz blues soul rock & roll and hip-hop. Iida began playing the piano at age 5 and subsequently started playing the trumpet at age 9 (after listening to his mother’s Louis Armstrong’s Hello Dolly!) Classical and jazz music became his targeted genres. Originally from St. Louis MO Iida has lived in Pittsburgh Cleveland Los Angeles and Seattle before recently relocating to New York City. He’s internalized the different styles of music from each region making his approach to composing and arranging appealing and unexpected with his subtle amalgamation of all genres. Iida’s debut album as leader Evergreen was released in January 2024 on Origin Records to significant critical acclaim. Appearing with Iida at his Marine View appearance will be his fellow NYC bandmates Chris McCarthy on piano and keyboard JK Kim on drums Masami Kuroki on guitar and San Francisco-based Giulio Xavier Cetto on bass. Don’t miss a fascinating evening of music in the beautiful confines of Marine View.
