Friday 6th February | 7.30–10.00pm (doors 6.30pm)Patch colchester is delighted to host the formidable Simon Spillett one of the UK’s busiest and most respected bop tenor saxophonists. Simon boasts an impressive list of accolades, including BBC Jazz Awards, British Jazz Awards, and Jazz Journal’s Album of the Year.
He tours regularly with his quartet and leads a highly acclaimed big band made up of A-list UK jazz musicians, featured at most major jazz festivals. In between these high-profile engagements, Simon makes a point of supporting local musicians by playing in smaller venues.
No need for a coffee before the gig: Simon’s hard-swinging, high-energy sound is guaranteed to keep you wide awake, while his heartfelt ballads are just as likely to move you to tears.

Simon will be joined by Tony Gooderham, a much sought-after keyboard player on the London and Essex jazz circuit.
On double bass will be Rob Palmer, long-time who played with many of Britain’s top jazz musicians through the Felixstowe Jazz Club, which he ran for many years.
Local jazz jam organiser Elmer Van Der Hoek completes the lineup on drums.
Local beers, lovely wines, a selection of soft drinks, and light bites will be available on the night.
