About this Event
Experience the vocal stylings of Jamila Green, accompanied by piano, bass, & drums. The set list draws inspiration from the many musicians and composers depicted in our Jazz Greats exhibition, with tunes made popular by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, and George Gershwin.
About the Featured Artist:
Jamila A. Green is a West Charlotte native with deep musical roots, most notably as the daughter of drummer Tommy Green. Jamila has been singing since childhood, sharing her voice in church, at weddings, and–most importantly–in the car. Her sound is shaped by the timeless influence of Chaka Khan, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Ross, PJ Morton, the Clark Sisters, and Rejoice (her aunties/mama’s gospel group). Jamila is also an author, publishing her first children’s book, Give That Drummer Some! in 2025.
When she’s not singing and working in the nonprofit sector, she enjoys exploring Charlotte, traveling, going to concerts, listening to audiobooks, karaoke, vibing to music, and spending time with friends and family. Looking ahead, Jamila is embracing her musical journey, stepping into a career she never expected in her 30’s.
With a passion for storytelling through music, she credits God for her gift and expresses gratitude for it daily. This performance is dedicated to little Mila, her family, and framily - who have continued to champion her talent even when she couldn’t see it.
