About this Event
Jazz Brunch and Black History Celebration
St Thomas Parish kicks off Black History Month with a Jazz Brunch celebration honoring the life and legacy of Pauli Murray.
As we mark the one-hundred-year anniversary of Black History Month, we gather to spotlight Pauli Murray’s extraordinary witness as an Episcopalian priest, poet, attorney, and tireless advocate for social justice. Her story of faith, courage and perseverance offers a powerful lens through which to celebrate this historic milestone. It is fitting that St. Thomas celebrates Pauli as she spent her summers at our St. Simon’s mission.
Guests will enjoy live jazz by the J Smalls Quartet, reflections from Bishop Eugene Taylor Sutton, the keynote speaker, and a special personal remembrance from Rosita Stevens-Holsey, Pauli Murray’s niece, who will offer an intimate account of her life and legacy.
Join us for a morning of music fellowship and inspiration as we honor a local and national figure whose faith shaped the church and the movement for justice.
Tickets are limited. Advance registration is encouraged.
