Jazz at the Stifel - Indestructible featuring Roger Humphries

Pittsburgh based group Indestructible celebrates the music and legacy of The Jazz Messengers, performing compositions by Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton and others. The Jazz Messengers was a jazz combo for over thirty-five years beginning in the early 1950's as a collective, and ending when the long- time leader and founding drummer Art Blakey passed away in 1990.
Indestructible is a jazz sextet led by trombonist Reggie Watkins and features master drummer Roger Humphries. As a you musician, Humphries was influenced and mentored by his godfather and leader of The Jazz Messengers, Art Blakey. "It is a special treat to hear Roger in this musical context...", says Reggie Watkins. "Given the history and connection between the two drummers, Roger Humphires is the perfect drummer to pay tribute to the great Art Blakey." Indestructible showcases some of the region's most talented musicians like Michael Tomaro (sax), Tommy Lehman (trumpet), Howie Alexander (piano), Jordan McBride (bass), and several others. This high energy and relentlessly swinging group delivers blues infused improvisations, masterful arrangements and big band excitement.
