Jazz and Recording Camp

Calling all aspiring jazz virtuosos and budding recording engineers! Join us at the University of Indianapolis Jazz & Recording Summer Camp for an electrifying experience where the magic of live jazz meets the cutting-edge world of recording arts. This exclusive camp is tailor-made for high school musicians ready to embark on a musical journey like never before.

Jazz campers will dive into daily workshops led by the Midwest's most in-demand jazz musicians. From mastering the intricacies of improvisation to perfecting your technique, faculty will lead you through lessons, rehearsals, and masterclasses to maximize your potential. Plus, you’ll learn to play to the microphones in a recording session with the recording campers!

Recording campers will immerse themselves in state-of-the-art recording studios to learn the ropes of audio engineering, experiment with cutting-edge technology, and collaborate with musicians to transform artistic vision into reality. Whether you're usually behind the mic or the mixing console, the recording camp is your backstage pass to the world of sonic artistry.

The camp is open to students who are rising freshmen (9th grade) to graduating seniors (who have not yet matriculated at a college). No audition is required for admission to camp; all levels are welcome. At least one year of prior study on your instrument or some experience with music technology is required. For performers, a placement audition will take place on Sunday, July 7, 2024. We welcome all traditional jazz instruments such as saxophone, trumpet, trombone, upright bass, guitar, piano, vibes, and drum set, and those interested in recording, sound reinforcement, or music production. Performers should provide their own instrument, and guitarists should provide their own amp.
