We would love you to join us for the second year of Jaunt Up The Jetty which aims to raise awareness of, and fundraise for, the Charlie Teo Foundation for brain cancer research. This year, we're aiming to raise $6000+Why the Charlie Teo Foundation?
Charlie Teo saved the life of Jaunt Up The Jetty's Founder, Nina Concannon in 2020 at a time when no other surgeon would. Today, four years on, Nina has vowed to continue to raise funds to help support the research of the Charlie Teo Foundation.
One of the biggest drivers for this foundation is to change the way brain cancer is treated...to find less invasive ways of managing and curing this disease. They work in collaboration with other major research studies around the world, and here in Australia.
Since being diagnosed with brain cancer, 11 years ago, Nina was shocked to realise how many people here in our own community have been affected by brain cancer. Many of you will know of somebody; a child or an adult that is either living with, or has passed away from this relentless disease.
The Event:
5:30pm: Low key, family gathering on the grassed area between the 'little' children's playground, and Kyst.
Bring your own picnic, or enjoy a sausage sizzle from @The Lions Club of Vasse Inc. (all proceeds to Jaunt up The Jetty), a Donut (or three!) from the Apex Donut Van (all proceeds to Jaunt Up The Jetty).
We have a raffle with our benefactor, Erin Sullivan, donating an original 77cmX77cm oil on canvas; 'Here Comes the Sun' amongst other raffle prizes. (see discussion tab above for a pic of this stunning painting).
At our Registration Station, you will have the opportunity to order your own Jaunt Up The Jetty T-shirt and/or buy a Charlie Teo Foundation cap for those hot summer days ahead of us.
You can find out about the Charlie Teo Foundation and learn about some of the research they do at our Information Tent. In here you will also see the installation of 1000 origami cranes that Nina has (almost) singlehandedly folded herself. If you know Nina, you will know this has been a major achievement.
Kids (and big grown-up kids) can try their hand at folding their own origami crane to take home with them in our Activity Tent. There will also be mandala and ocean themed colouring in stations for the littler ones amongst us.
7:30pm: Sunset Jaunt Up The Jetty
Together, we will walk the iconic Busselton Jetty, enjoying the chatter amongst ourselves, and the sunset across Geographe Bay.
At the end of your jaunt we hope you'll have enjoyed a cruisy spring evening knowing that you've contributed to an incredibly worthwhile cause. In expanding the current understanding of brain cancer, new treatments will support those living with this disease now, and into the future.
