This week's featured act:
NICK VULTURE
This is poetry in music.
After 18 years in the Australian garage punk scene, Nick is now a solo singer-songwriter that has released multiple albums and toured both nationally and internationally. Throughout his musical journey, one thing has stayed the same... Nick continues to disrupt and challenge music forms by connecting with his audience in a way that is honest and with an energy that can only come from a real, and often familiar, place. He completely captivates the listener by grounding the words and the music in stories they will feel were written just for them. Nick's poetry will reach deep into your soul. The songs are deeply personal but also universal in that they reflect the general fragility of the human experience.
Nick's first two LPs, 'Dust Off The Trails' and 'After The Storm' both made national and local charts in Australia and were critically acclaimed by numerous Australian and international reviews.
Taking his cues from artists such as Conor Oberst, Frightened Rabbit, Bob Dylan, Justin Townes Earle, John Prine and Phoebe Bridgers, Nick has played major music festivals in Australia, as well as the best venues in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Hobart, Perth, Sunshine Coast and Cairns. He also played at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City (2023) and toured the UK and Japan.
JASON MCNIFF
Jason is a troubadour who has made nine albums which people call Folk, Americana, or Alt. Country. There is an Englishness in his guitar playing however, and you might like to think of Bert Jansch or Wizz Jones meeting John Prine & Townes Van Zandt. Time Out writes, ‘McNiffs quiet, intimate, fragile-sounding vocals draw you into his world, an almost timeless place, through which he drifts, a romantic loner, a dreamer, at home with the blues.’ He is often touted as one of the UKs most overlooked musical treasures.
'I love Jason's version (of Fisherman's blues)'
Mike Scott, The Waterboys
'Jason's versions sound so fresh, whilst staying true to Bert's timeless music'
