Jason Dea West is a troubadour, a tramp, a poet.. he has spent decades writing, recording, and performing folk music across the United States. In his early years, he traveled the country by freight train, hitchhiking in questionably reliable old vehicles, and honing his craft as a young busker on the streets of New Orleans, Nashville, Austin, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Over the years, Jason has toured extensively throughout the lower 48 states and Alaska with a variety of bands, performing everywhere from barn dances and taverns to theaters, music festivals, circus tents, and vaudeville stages. His work has also been featured on radio and in film. A fiercely independent artist, Jason has built his career from the ground up, earning a devoted following around the world through relentless touring and authentic storytelling.
West's poignant songwriting breathes new life into the vintage sounds of country, folk, and blues. Whether delivering blistering guitar and harmonica instrumentals or heartfelt songs and humorous tales, he never strays far from his traditional-yet-untraditional, anarchic punk-folk roots.
Throughout his career, Jason has shared the stage with artists including Matt Heckler, The Resonant Rogues, and Larry and His Flask. In recent years, he has appeared as direct support for Sierra Ferrell, Lost Dog Street Band, and Bridge City Sinners, further cementing his reputation as one of the hardest-working voices in contemporary American folk music.
