Join singer-songwriter and sanshin player Marina for an interactive introduction to the music history of Okinawa, Japan's southernmost prefecture. The sanshin, the three-stringed banjo at the heart of Okinawan music, evolved during the Ryukyu Kingdom and remains central to both traditional and contemporary Okinawan music.

Learn about the cultural significance of the sanshin and different styles while enjoying live performances of Okinawa and Amami music by Marina and fellow singer and sanshin player Miku. Participants will also have the opportunity to try playing the sanshin and ask questions during a hands-on session. Whether you are curious about Okinawan culture, world music, or musical instruments, this workshop offers a welcoming and engaging cultural experience!
