Join renowned Japanese artist, Yoshiko Fujinami, visiting from Japan, for this inspiring and relaxing Uchiwa (団扇) Japanese Paper Fan Making workshop. The workshop takes place for 2.5 hours on Thursday, 13th Aug 2026, in the morning, in the large light and airy APT Gallery space in Deptford.
During the workshop with Yoshiko Fujimani you will be guided, step –by –step, through how to produce your own unique traditional Japanese Uchiwa fan. You will be using a selection of natural materials being brought from Japan, including Japanese Washi papers, and traditional Japanese bamboo frames, to learn the traditional Japanese techniques. You will be able to take the unique fans you have made home at the end of the workshop.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, those who have experience in making and for those who want to try something new. All the materials and tools are provided.
The course skills provided will offer you a strong foundation to independently and confidently go on to develop further creative fan projects of your own.
It is advised to book early as there are a limited number of places, and to arrive a little before the session to settle in and to meet and get to know Yoshiko.
