About this Event
Structural Concepts and Embodied Carbon presentation will address key structural aspects of residential conversions including seismic retrofit requirements, retrofit solutions, foundations, and embodied carbon. The presentation is geared towards architects but is appropriate for all design professionals interested in adaptive reuse and sustainability. The presenter is a licensed structural engineer with two decades in the industry and will provide case studies from his experience.
Presenter: Carl Kloos, Kurt Fischer Structural Engineers
Carl Kloos, S.E., LEED AP leads the Portland office of Kurt Fischer Structural Engineering, and throughout his career, has worked on a range of project types, including adaptive reuse, multi-family residential, high-end residential, hospitality, educational, military, infra-structure, and healthcare, across the western United States.
Carl’s professional motivation derives from improving resiliency and sustainability one building at a time. Carl has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder and master’s degrees in structural engineering from Stanford University. He is a LEED BD+C Accredited Professional, and a US Resiliency Council Certified Rater. Carl is KFSE’s SE 2050 Embodied Carbon Reduction Champion.
