About this Event
Grab a drink, pull up a chair and connect with other grade 6 -12 STEM teachers at STEM on Tap! This workshop series connects STEM teachers with practitioners, resources, and each other. Each workshop will take place at a brewery around the southwest metro and feature a different STEM practitioner and topic.
You will receive a certificate for 2.0 hours of continuing education credit at the conclusion of the workshop.
Dinner will be provided for participants, but you are responsible for your own drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).
Weather & Climate
Wednesday, January 14th: 4:30-6:30PM at Nine Mile Brewing (9555 James Ave S Suite 290, Bloomington)
Nick Carletta, Meteorologist, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
This session is designed for educators seeking classroom-ready weather and climate resources. Participants will explore vetted lesson materials from the National Weather Service (NWS), UCAR, and NOAA, with resources to support full instructional units or stand-alone lessons aligned with Earth science and environmental standards.
The presentation will also showcase sample slides and content from NWS school outreach programs, including weather fundamentals, weather vs. climate, severe weather, and how meteorologists study and forecast weather using real-world data. Career pathways in meteorology will be highlighted, along with regional BS/MS programs teachers can share with interested students. Teachers will leave with practical materials, real-world examples, and ideas for engaging students in atmospheric science.

About the presenter:
Nick is a native Minnesotan and a Lead Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities. He has been at the NWS since 2017 and leads the student outreach program at NWS Twin Cities. He received his BS in Meteorology at Iowa State University and MS from the University of North Dakota. Before joining the NWS, he started his career at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center working with atmospheric data from earth observing satellites.
