Meet the artist, Karen Larrabee.
Karen defines herself as a free-style artist as she loves all things creative.
Born and raised in northern New Jersey where she had many opportunities to visit the museums of NYC truly inspired her. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in art and education, and a Master’s of Liberal Learning, with concentrations in studio art/art history and art education from Marietta College, Marietta, OH, where she lived for more than 30 years. While in Ohio, Karen married, raised a family and taught art until retiring. During that time she received awards for both teaching and artistic endeavors.
After moving to SC more than 18 years ago and joining the Crooked Creek Art League, she knew she had found her new home. Karen has served the art league in many capacities, including 2 years as president, became a signature member of the SC Watermedia Society, and won numerous awards from the league (16), the SC State Fair art exhibit, Fairfield County’s Art Guild shows and the Columbia Museum of Art, Design League’s Runaway Runway recycled fashion shows.
Living life as an art educator, Karen was continuously exposed to, and engaged in, many media and styles of art, and has always enjoyed the freedom to be creative and experiment artistically. Lately she has been working in mixed media and collage, but also enjoys drawings, watercolors, pastels and acrylics.
