Withershins: Written and recorded in the tradition of John Martyn, Bert Jansch and other greats of British folk guitar, Withershins evokes the unvarnished spirit of British folk yet adds an extra element of esoteric magick. Written and performed by Jamie Dickson (Editor-in-Chief, Guitarist magazine) the album was produced by Chris Turpin of the acclaimed roots-rock band Ida Mae and was mastered at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios. It features stellar performances from pianist and flautist Stephanie Jean Ward (Ida Mae), violinist Aaron Catlow (Sheelanagig / Kit Hawes), vocalist Bethia Beadman (Hole / eponymous solo work) and bassist Nick Pini (Laura Marling, Tom Jones, Ethan Johns).
ClerknWell ARTslab is the music-poetry-comedy night hosted by Diego Brown & the Good Fairy - the original twisted folk. Specialising in genre-busting talent and mixing things up (not always on purpose) ARTslab is a hot favourite among lovers of intimate live music, spoken word and small cakes. It's upstairs at one of London's most famous music pubs, The Betsey Trotwood, just up the road from Farringdon station. Get stuck in. (Also vote.)
