James Suggs - Jeremy Carter: Miles - Trane Centennial
Bay Area favorites James Suggs and Jeremy Carter will open the new Tampa Jazz Club concert season with a tribute to all-time jazz greats Miles Davis and John Coltrane, on Sunday, August 23 at 3pm. This Centennial Celebration takes place in the Mainstage Theatre at Hillsborough College in Ybor City and is part of HC’s Visual & Performing Arts Series.
Miles Davis and John Coltrane, both born in 1926, are being honored throughout the jazz world this year. Each of them broke new artistic ground, and their collaborations – including timeless albums such as ‘Milestones’ and ‘Kind of Blue’ – were truly transformative.
Trumpeter James Suggs and saxophonist Jeremy Carter have each performed tributes to these jazz icons for packed houses in the past, and this ‘double-centennial’ event promises to be one of the concerts of the year. James and Jeremy will be joined by a top-flight rhythm section: pianist John O’Leary, bassist Alejandro Arenas, and drummer Jean Bolduc.
This will be the first of eight shows in this long-running Sunday afternoon series bringing jazz to Ybor City. See you there!
