James Montgomery with Tino Gross and Friends

Blues Legend and Detroit native James Montgomery returns home to the Cadieux Café on Sunday May 31st for a special “Homecoming Show” backed by Detroit Legend Tino Gross and his band. Montgomery started his first band, The Montgomery Miller Blues Band, while attending High School in Grosse Pointe in the late 60’s and later on a summer break from Boston University joined the Gold Brothers in 1969 to open shows for Iggy Pop (then The Stooges) and The MC5. Eventually Gold Brothers members moved to Boston and The James Montgomery Band was formed.

Two of Michigan’s most well known and respected guitarists would end up playing lead guitar for The James Montgomery Band. Jimmy McCarty perhaps the best pure Rock & Roll guitar payer on the planet was a member of Montgomery’s band in New England and years later Wayne Kramer from the MC5 joined the band in a stint that lasted years. Montgomery also recorded with Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker on the Platinum album “Double Wide” and played with Kracker on stage to support Boston area shows. Montgomery has performed with members of The Detroit Blues Society over the years and opened Detroit area shows for Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, and Cheech and Chong, among others. Notably, he played with John Lee Hooker at the age of 19 and the two became life-long friends. Montgomery grew up about a mile from the Café and his father was once the PR guy for the Cadieux so it is truly a “Homecoming Party”

Montgomery is thrilled to announce that he will be backed up by Tino Gross and The Dumpster Machine. Tino is a gifted front man, guitarist, and producer who has opened shows and rubbed elbows with many of the greats including Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Eminem, George Clinton, Freddy King and others. His band with Garret Bielaniec, Dennis Burck, and Jeremy Kanhouse is full out high energy Detroit style kick-ass.
