Jake Blount Live at The Woodshop

Jake Blount is a performer and scholar of Black folk music based in Providence, Rhode Island. A respected musicologist, he served as a music consultant for the film Sinners and performed on the soundtrack for Ken Burns’ The American Revolution. Blount is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Musicology and Ethnomusicology at Brown University, with a new string band album slated for release in September 2026. Widely recognized for his groundbreaking work as a string band musician, Blount has brought his unique blend of artistry and scholarship to stages including Carnegie Hall, the Newport Folk Festival, and NPR’s Tiny Desk. His acclaimed albums on Free Dirt Records and Smithsonian Folkways have been featured on year-end best-of lists by NPR, The New Yorker, and Rolling Stone.
