Jade across the Rockies - Todd Kristensen
About this Event
Jade was used for over 3000 years in British Columbia to make woodworking tools. Some of these artifacts were traded east across mountains and Indigenous language boundaries to Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The distribution of artifacts is unusual: this talk explores who was transporting jade and why.
Todd has worked at the Archaeological Survey of Alberta for 14 years where he interacts with industry and the heritage community to protect and recover archaeological resources in the province. He completed an MA degree from Memorial University in Newfoundland and a PhD from the U of A. His interests include mapping ancient human connections, understanding responses to ecological events, and public outreach. He has a son who is 13 years old and a wife who is ageless.
