About this Event
Morris County Historical Society is pleased to partner with local historians and history organizations to present a Morris County Walking Tour Series that celebrates the area’s rich and diverse past . From April through October, join us for nearly 40 guided walking tours that explore almost two dozen communities throughout Morris County, with topics ranging from unique historic districts, downtowns, and neighborhoods to local industries that shaped the landscape, and the individuals who left a lasting impact.
Join Morris County Historical Society and Morristown National Historical Park to explore the exciting- and at times explosive- Revolutionary history found right in Morristown. Join us as we learn a little more about General Washington’s hosts at the Ford Mansion and the secret (gun) powder mill, critical to the early war effort, that was kept on the land now behind Acorn Hall. The tour will begin at Acorn Hall (68 Morris Avenue, Morristown) and include half mile walk to the Ford Mansion and back, followed by a presentation and then quarter mile hike to the archaeological site of the powder mill. Conditions will include hills and uneven terrain. Sturdy shoes and water bottles are recommended. Parking is available at Acorn Hall.
FREE. Rain/Shine. Space is limited, pre-registration required.
