Paolo Amadio, a Cazenovia resident, was born and raised in Rome, Italy. His strong passion for Roman and Italian art and history fuels his enthusiasm for sharing the intricacies and awe-inspiring stories associated with his native city.Paolo Amadio will present "Caravaggio: Baroque Enigmatic Painter". He will touch upon the ground-breaking artistic concepts brought to life by Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio, by discussing some of his most intriguing paintings considering the artist's unique vision.
Caravaggio's daring and defiant life will also be presented and contextualized in the selection and execution of his pictorial themes. Caravaggio’s life and death are still veiled in mystery and are subject to many movies and literary works. His passionate and fiery comportment made him a “troublemaker” and gave him the label of “Pittore Maledetto” (Damned Painter). He was the prototype of the artistic genius that lived his life to the extreme. Notwithstanding, his art transcends his outlandish temperament with his introspective, fresh, and profound symbolism. Caravaggio’s pictorial techniques became models for many Baroque pictorial schools and his realism and cognitive use of “Chiaro Scuro” – light and darkness – is, even today, a source of awe-inspiring admiration.
