Irish Millie is a Canadian folk artist who writes songs about connection and loss. Her music lives in the moments where relationships feel most fragile—when something is changing, or about to disappear. Her sound is shaped by a foundation in Celtic fiddle music, but it is her songwriting that defines her voice: direct, unguarded, and emotionally immediate, grounded in lived
experience. Raised in a musical household and immersed in traditional fiddle from an early age, Millie developed a strong instrumental voice that continues to inform her sound. The name "Irish Millie" traces back to an adventuresome character she created as a child, a nod to her Irish family roots, who eventually joined her on stage and remains with her today. Her writing, however, moves in a different direction—favouring plainspoken language and repetition over abstraction. “I tend to write when I feel like I’m about to lose something,” she says. Songs like So Gone, written in memory of a close friend, and Wasted, reflecting on leaving home, capture a young artist processing experience in real time, grounded in small, familiar details. Her work has earned national recognition, including multiple nominations at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and Folk Music Ontario. In 2026, she was named the winner of the Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase at the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, further establishing her as an artist to watch. She has performed internationally across Canada, the United States, and Europe, with major festival appearances in Denmark and Sweden, and has headlined Peterborough Musicfest. Her music has been featured by outlets including Global News and Roots Music Canada, where Wasted was described as capturing “the moment a young artist recognizes the strength of the hands that held her up.” She has also been featured on CBC’s Daybreak Alberta, and her music has been broadcast on CBC’s Fresh Air with Ismaila Alfa.
Now entering a new phase of her career, Millie is focused on developing new material and connecting with people through shared experiences. She will tour Canada’s East Coast in summer 2026. “I want to bring together what I love about traditional music and what I love about
new music.”
