The Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley resumes its Irish Film series this fall on Wednesday September 24 at 7 PM. Tying in with our September theme, we are happy to present “The Troubles: A Dublin Story”.
Although the Troubles are rightly associated with Northern Ireland its effect was felt around the entire island, no one was immune. In this movie, two Dublin brothers – idealistic Francis (Adam Redmond) and unhinged Sean (Ray Malone) – angry over the treatment of Catholics in the North, join with the local cell of the Provisional Irish Republic Army. Over the course of the next few years both men experience the dangers and hypocrisy of their situation, as the PIRA turns to criminality and their personal lives fall apart.
Our films will be shown in the H.A.R.P. Museum on the second floor of the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley, 623 Columbia St, Utica. Our films are free to attend but to ensure we have adequate seating, we ask that you register at the link below or call and leave a message at 315-733-4228 Ext 6. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
Our other Fall film offerings are Wed October 8 11 AM Lunch & Learn two shorts “An Cathair Mhor - The Big City” and “Sit Down and Shut Up”; Thu October 23 7 PM “Man of Aran” sponsored by the Bank of Utica; and Thu November 20 7 PM “Brendan Gleeson’s Farewell to Hughes”.
This film series was made possible through a grant secured by Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D-119, Marcy). This grant, funded by the Legislation Initiative Program and administered out of the state’s Office of Child and Family Services, to provide educational and recreational programs and events for youth and adults in the community. The Legislative Initiative Program is funded by the New York State Legislature to support the efforts of the activities of eligible non-profit organizations.
