Hear over one hundred and twenty singers from the Munster High School Choral Program, as they present their Ireland Tour Program before they depart. The hour-long program features a selection of sacred choral music, traditional Irish repertoire, spirituals, and contemporary works by American composers, including Jake Runestad and Marques L.A. Garrett.
The Munster High School Choral Department at Munster High School (IN) is comprised of four curricular choirs - Beginning Treble Chorus, Maverick Choir, Chamber Choir, and Chorale - and two extracurricular ensembles - SING (Tenor/Bass Voices) and SONG (Soprano/Alto Voices). These groups perform four major concerts during the school year and sing at multiple community performances, sporting events, and collaborations with professional and collegiate ensembles. Programming includes a multicultural, eclectic repertoire that spans from traditional to significant contemporary works, all in their original languages. Through a wide-ranging repertoire, adjudicated events, and global collaborations, these ensembles help students develop lifelong skills and become thoughtful, creative, and engaged citizens.
The choirs have performed at the 2020 and 2026 Indiana Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference, performed in the 2023 Salzburg Choral Festival under the direction of both Dr. Edith Copley and Professor János Czifra, and performed in concert with Grammy-nominated British vocal ensemble VOCES8. In May 2025, the MHS Chorale performed in the Concert Hall at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop, as well as the televised Opening Ceremony of the National Memorial Day Parade on the steps of the National Archives Building.
The curricular ensembles have consistently earned Gold or Gold With Distinction ratings at Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) events, and Chorale has appeared at ISSMA State Finals. The program has released two full-length albums: Through the Valley, in May 2021, and With Love In Our Heart: Live from Austria in December 2023. Students routinely receive Gold ratings at Regional and State Solo and Ensemble Contests and are frequently selected for state, regional, national, and international honor choirs, while many alumni of the program go on to continue to sing in collegiate and professional ensembles across the nation. This renowned program is under the direction of Luke McGinnis.
