Join us in our store for this 2025 Iowa City Book Festival Event! Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program alum Tatiana Schlote-Bonne will read from her newest book, The Mean Ones, and will be joined in conversation with fellow NWP alum, Carey Dunne. Praised by Clay McLeod Chapman, author of Wake Up and Open Your Eyes, as "A folk horror flex that suplexes every summer campfire story you’ve ever heard," and by Nat Cassidy, author of Mary and When the Wolf Comes Home, as "Heartbreaking and infuriating, full of delightfully ghoulish, garish imagery," The Mean Ones promises to be a thrilling tale of confronting one's trauma, and it "makes the wilderness as frightening as memories of cruel adolescent laughter . . . and vice versa" (Cassidy).
Tatiana Schlote-Bonne is the author of the YA horror novel, Such Lovely Skin. She has an MFA from The Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Iowa. When she’s not writing, she’s either gaming, lifting heavy weights, or teaching people how to lift heavy weights.
Carey Dunne is a writer, editor, and teacher based in Iowa City. Her work has appeared in The Guardian, The Baffler, Fast Company, and elsewhere. She received an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from the University of Iowa in 2022.
