Join us for the 25th Annual Iowa Author Awards honoring Kaveh Akbar, Kali White VanBaale, Vince Gotera, and John Domini (posthumous). We’ll also recognize Sue Woody, retired Des Moines Public Library director, with the Friend of Literacy Award.This year's celebration takes place Thursday, October 9, at the beautiful World Food Prize Hall of Laureates—former home of the downtown library. Past honorees include Pulitzer Prize winners Jane Smiley and Marilynne Robinson, and best-selling authors like Nikole Hannah-Jones and Bill Bryson.
The Des Moines Public Library Foundation provides nearly $300,000 each year for library programs citywide, serving people of all ages and backgrounds. The Iowa Author Awards Dinner is a vital fundraising source to help us fulfill this important mission.
