About this Event
Are you confident in your ability to conduct thorough investigative interviews, whether with witnesses or suspects? Do you know how to adapt your approach based on the complexities of legal requirements and sensitive cases?
La Touche Training’s Investigative Interviewing course is designed to refine your interviewing skills with hands-on techniques and real-world exercises. Led by a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience, this course offers invaluable insights into structured interviews, legal frameworks, and managing challenging interviews, making it essential for those in investigative roles across public and private sectors.
Why choose this course
Investigative interviewing is a structured approach to gathering information through conversations with witnesses, victims, or suspects. It's designed to obtain accurate, reliable, and complete information while maintaining ethical standards and respecting the rights of those being interviewed.
Content relevance: this course is praised for its focus on softer skills such as non-verbal communication, interviewing styles and questioning techniques, which participants find invaluable. The incorporation of case law and practical examples is particularly beneficial.
Quality of instruction: The expert trainer, Mark Heffer, is knowledgeable and focused, and the addition of an actor is a great enhancement to the course structure.
Course materials and structure: you will receive clear and simple take-home materials, which offer practical steps for planning and executing interviews effectively.
This in-person training is very practical incorporating interview techniques, international best practice and realistic exercises and experiential role-play with a professional actor.
The course will be a mixture of blended learning, i.e practitioner focused presentations and interactivity, rather than a purely theoretical approach. It includes the provision of tools and templates. Learning will be consolidated through engaging interactive and immersive exercises. The essence of this course is experiential.
On Day 1, whilst there is a degree of theoretical input, it is not ‘chalk and talk’. The theory sessions in relation to the PEACE Model and behaviours are balanced with discussions, exchanges of ideas and working practices amongst the delegates. A number of discussion and ideas exercises cement the learning.
Day 2 centres around a highly interactive role play using professional actors. The delegates have to assimilate the facts of a case and get the chance to plan and deliver their interview in their way. They have the added reality of being presented with a series of documentary exhibits which they have to integrate in to the structure of their interview. The role actor and the materials used differentiate this from other ‘peer’ interview courses and give it a degree of realism that will stay with them. Experiential learning at its best.
