Transitioning from patrol into the role of an investigator is one of the most challenging moves in a law enforcement career. Most officers make that shift undertrained and underprepared, spending months learning on the job what they should have been taught on day one.
This course changes that.
Investigations! For LEOs and New Investigators is a full-day, 8-hour training that gives patrol officers and new investigators a practical, structured framework for building cases, managing caseloads, and working crimes with confidence. Using a straightforward 6-step investigative program, participants will walk away with the tools, techniques, and knowledge to handle a wide range of criminal cases from start to finish.
What You Will Learn
* How to transition into the investigator role using a practical 6-step case management program
* Case building fundamentals: organization, caseload management, investigative tools, and proper probable cause
* Interview techniques for victims and suspects
* Elements of property crimes: burglary, theft, retail theft rings, pawn cases, and felony trespass
* Elements of person crimes: aggravated battery, felony domestic crimes, stalking, aggravated assault, and attempted murder
* Elements of financial crimes: fraud, credit card fraud, fraudulent returns, forgery, and check fraud
* How to write and issue subpoenas, search warrants, and arrest warrants
* How to write a complete, professional investigative case report
* Strategies for building strong cases and working them with confidence
Your Instructor
Sergeant Jacqueline Lee Hearon is the supervisor of the Economic Crime Task Force and Fraud Unit at the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, where she leads a multi-agency task force and delivers fraud, supervisory, and investigative training. A 30-year law enforcement veteran, Sergeant Hearon is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), and Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI). She holds an A.A. in Criminal Justice and a B.S. in Organizational Management, and instructed for 10 years at the Brevard Community College Police Academy teaching Investigations and Crime Scene. She is an active member of IAFCI, ACFE, and ACAMS.
