Help save the dunes Fri. August 15th! We'll remove mother of millions, an invasive plant (kalanchoe x houghtenii) to help local wildlife.
About this Event

Join UF/IFAS Extension Nassau County’s Natural Resource and Agriculture Agent, Dave Héberrt for an Invasive Species Round-Up. This event will educate residents on the impacts of invasive species, followed by a round-up along Nassau County’s dune ecosystems. We'll remove mother of millions, an invasive plant (kalanchoe x houghtenii) to help local dune wildlife. Mother of millions is a Florida Invasive Species Council (FISC) Category 1 invasive succulent, meaning it displaces native vegetation. Why is that bad? Because local dune widlife need native plants for food and shelter, and they can't use this plant! This means that as Kalanchoe grows all over the dune, it continues to reduce food and shelter. Animals such as birds, gopher tortoises, and more depend on native plants, but the mother of millions plant (Kalanchoe x houghtenii) are stealing space and nutrients from those native plants.
