Learn about invasive plant species and the impacts they have on your local ecosystem.
About this Event

The Toronto region is home to numerous invasive plants, animals, and insects. You may have seen some in your garden or encountered them when out hiking or fishing in natural areas. Invasive species can spread quickly, outcompete native plants, reduce biodiversity, and create ongoing maintenance challenges—but with the right knowledge, you can help make a difference close to home.

At this workshop, you'll learn about invasive species and how they can impact the local ecosystem. Learn how to identify and manage invasive plant species in your yard and neighbourhood.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to identify common invasive plant species in Toronto
  • Why invasive species are harmful to local ecosystems
  • Best practices for removal and disposal
  • Native plant alternatives for your garden
  • How residents can help protect neighbourhood biodiversity

This workshop is ideal for homeowners, renters, gardeners, and anyone interested in improving local green spaces. Whether you’re new to gardening or already have experience, you’ll leave with practical tools and confidence to take action in your own yard or community.

This project is part of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA)’s Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP). The Pocket SNAP is a comprehensive plan to accelerate and facilitate climate action and urban resilience through neighbourhood-based solutions in the Pocket.
