Inuit Maternal-Child Health & Cultural Safety Conference: Policy, practice, and research to increase culturally safe maternal-child healthcare services across Inuit Nunangat

This in-person national conference brings together Inuit Elders, midwives, mothers, youth, and other stakeholders from across Inuit Nunangat to share and discuss ways to make maternal, newborn, and child health services more culturally safe and aligned with Inuit values and ways of knowing. The conference will feature:

• Birthing stories that showcase how Inuit have birthed in different settings over time;
• Midwifery education, training and policies across Inuit Nunangat;
• Different models and experiences of Inuit-led midwifery practice; and
• Exploration of what culturally safe care means for Inuit

Research tables and posters will also feature current research projects relevant to Inuit maternal, newborn, and child health. Interactive sessions will enable attendees to share their own birthing stories and ideas.

The conference would be of interest to Inuit, health and social service providers supporting Inuit health and well-being, allied researchers, policy-makers, and others interested in Inuit-led midwifery and/or community-based models of maternal-child healthcare.

Both days, 7:45 -8:30am conference attendees can pick up registration material and enjoy breakfast.

Evening debriefing sesions will be made available for attendees as well.
