£25/young person
Suit ages 10- 15 approx and parents can either drop off or stay and support their child (no charge for parents staying!)
WHAT IS IT? A 3.5 hr lab based session, with a 30 mins break for lunch (bring your own packed lunch), introducing youngsters to the amazing microscopic world around us.
The course is taught by a QTS microbiology teacher and pathology scientist.
Experiments & activities include:
We’ll be using high powered binocular microscopes with sub stage condensers
~How to set up a microscope
~How to prepare appropriate samples for microscopy
~Plant cells vs animal cells
~Pond life and protists
~Visualising bacteria with the gram stain
~How to use the oil immersion lens (x1000 mag)
~Preparing and watching crystals form
~Leaf stomata practical
~Easy dark field microscopy
It will be in the biology lab (ground floor lab number F8) at Petroc College, Old Sticklepath Hill, Barnstaple, Devon, EX31 2BQ.
