Youth and adult Intro to Kayaking - Two-Night Pool Class - class description

This class will introduce young paddlers (7 to 11) and their adult chaperone to the foundational and fundamental techniques of whitewater kayaking. Sharing the learning process with the youth and their adult chaperone allows the opportunity to introduce fundamental techniques as well as providing tips and techniques to the adult that can be implemented through the progression of the youth student as they have opportunities to practice outside of the class environment. Although this two-night class is focused on the skills necessary for whitewater kayaking, the content is applicable to all disciplines of kayaking.

This class is not intended to teach adults the foundation and skills for Whitewater kayaking. It is designed to provide an environment for the youth paddler to learn and grow and have reinforcement from the adult chaperone as they progress outside the classroom environment. If you are seeking Whitewater instruction as adult, please register for one of our two night intro classes focused on individuals 12 years and up.
During this 2 night 6-hour class, Rapid Progression Kayak School's professional instructors will help you learn the basics in the following areas:

Water safety
Proper Gear/Equipment
Executing and feeling comfortable with wet exits
Basic strokes (Forward, Reverse, Forward Sweep, Reverse Sweep, Stern Draw, Sculling)
Turning - Skidded Turns vs Carving Turns
Edge Control
Hip Snap and Bracing
Rolling (C to C vs Sweep Roll)

The cost of the class includes all the necessary gear; all you will need to bring is a swimsuit and towel. For adults that don't already have white water kayaking experience, we provide safe and stable inflatable kayaks that will allow them to focus on the teaching and training techniques directed at the youth student. If you are experienced and have your own personal gear, we encourage you to bring it as this can be beneficial in your progression. All kayaks must be thoroughly cleaned and inspected prior to entering the pool. We do not offer cleaning facilities on site so this must be done prior to your arrival.
