About this Event

Introduction to Teaching for Biliteracy Two-Day Virtual Institute

Join us for a dynamic online learning experience designed for educators working in:

  • Transitional bilingual programs
  • Dual language programs
  • One-way and two-way immersion programs
  • K-5 and K-8 programs

This institute includes synchronous (live) sessions via Zoom and access to optional asynchronous (pre-recorded) webinars, which will be shared during the live sessions to support and deepen your learning.

Target Audience: Educators (teachers, coaches, school and district based administrators) new to Teaching for Biliteracy in Dual Language or Bilingual Education programs.

What You'll Learn

  • Effective strategies for the strategic use of Spanish (or another non-English language) and English in biliteracy instruction
  • Best practices for teaching literacy in both languages
  • Practical strategies to implement the Bridge between languages
  • The Biliteracy Unit Framework (BUF) for designing and delivering standards-based instruction that integrates language and content
  • Programmatic structures to support biliteracy instruction and to ensure sustainability, including:
    • Language and content allocation plans
    • Biliteracy schedules
    • Biliteracy curriculum maps

Daily Schedule

  • July 28-29, 2026
  • Live sessions: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Central Time (each day)

Interactive sessions will feature presentations, activities, and small group discussions

It is best if each participant joins from their own device to fully participate in breakout rooms and interactive elements. If this is not possible, please let us know so that we can prepare appropriately.

Pre-recorded webinars will be shared as additional learning.

  • One week before the event, you will receive an email that includes the interactive agenda that will be referenced throughout the live session and the Zoom links for each day. Please reach out to us if you do not receive the welcome email.

Technical Requirements

To ensure a smooth and engaging experience, each participant should have:

  • A laptop or desktop computer (phones and tablets may not support all features)
  • A webcam (video required for participation in whole group and breakout discussions)
  • The latest version of your preferred internet browser
  • The latest version of Zoom
  • An up-to-date computer operating system
  • A stable internet connection
  • A headset with a microphone or earbuds to help reduce background noise
