Introduction to Stained Glass - make your own suncatcher!
About this Event
Come learn and practice all the steps for making stained glass! I've found us a beautiful private meeting space so we can take our time and dive into learning the Foil Method to get you hooked on this unique hobby.
In our hands-on workshop, you will learn to cut glass, select your color combos and start foiling. Then we'll move on to soldering, adding a jump ring for hanging, and even changing the silver finish to copper or black if you like! Yes, magic is in session!✨✨✨
By the end of class you will have completed a 6"x6" piece and know how to:
- Score and cut glass following a pattern
- Minimize your use of the grinder while still fitting your pieces well
- Center and burnish foil so it stays put
- Keep solder flowing across the copper tape
- Predict the behavior of molten solder so you get a strong beaded finish
- Expertly tin and add a jump ring to hang your piece
- Best prep to get a shiny finish and best way to apply copper or black patina.
Parking is meter paid or walking 5+ blocks for residential free parking. So please aim to arrive 10 minutes early to check in and not worry about finding a spot. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will not be admitted into class and not offered a refund. There are coffee shops around if you need to get yourself here very early to be on time. I know how it is!
Class fee includes supplies and use of tools, all you need to complete your piece.
You will be learning from my over 100 year professional lineage of stained glass arts and build solid, quality practices from the beginning. If anything goes wonky as you practice your new skills, I'll have a tip and a way to adjust your wok to share with you.
Glass seems intimidating and fragile, but it can also be very flexible and forgiving when you know how to work with it.
I look forward to creating with you!
