Boost your sewing confidence and unleash your creativity! Whether you are brand new to sewing or looking to refresh your skills, this workshop provides a clear, step-by-step foundation in machine operation, seam construction, and hardware installation.

Through a mix of live instructor demonstrations, supervised practical exercises, and a guided hands-on project, you will apply everything you learn in real time—leaving the class with a fully finished, functional zipped pouch.

What You Will Learn

• Machine Setup & Operation: Master top and bobbin threading, tension settings, stitch options, and basic maintenance for electric sewing machines.
• Essential Seamwork: Practice clean straight stitching, structural French seams, and heavy-duty welt seams.
• Edge Finishing (No Overlocker Needed): Lock fabric edges using zigzag and pinking techniques to prevent fraying.
• Zippers & Hardware: Install a functional zipper using a zipper foot as you assemble your pouch project.
• One-Step Buttonholes: Familiarize yourself with the automatic one-step buttonhole feature for future garment projects.
• Troubleshooting: Learn simple techniques to diagnose and fix thread jams, skipped stitches, and tension issues independently.

Hands-On Project: The Zipped Pouch

Put your new skills directly into practice! During the second half of the workshop, you will bring all the techniques together to sew your own lined zipped pouch from scratch. You will measure, cut, insert the zipper, and finish the interior edges to take home a completed project you made yourself.

We are located at 39 High Bridge, Newcastle City Centre (NE1 1EW).

• Walking: We’re just a few minutes' walk from Grey Street or a 5-minute walk from Monument Metro.
• Parking: The nearest parking is at Dean Street Car Park (a 3-minute walk) or Manors Car Park.
