About the Workshop
Danzón, Cuba’s national dance, emerged in the late 19th century and became an important part of the evolution of Cuban popular music and dance, with its legacy extending into forms such as mambo and cha-cha-chá.
In this introductory workshop, we’ll explore a little of its history, the structure of a danzón–including when to dance and when not to dance–and learn the basic steps.
No partner or previous dance experience is required.
What to know before you come
Please arrive about 5 minutes before the workshop so we can get started on time.
Bring indoor shoes and a water bottle. There is a water fountain available at the studio.
Street parking is available nearby. You can also park at Ottawa City Hall, approximately a 5-minute walk from the studio. Weekend parking is a $2 flat rate.
