Have you ever wanted to make your own clothes? In just three hours, you will learn to sew your very own simple top using The Oyster Mouth Blouse sewing pattern by the Swansea Pattern Company. This is the absolute perfect starter pattern for anyone ready to dive into the world of garment making!
What You Will Learn:
- Size Matching: How to accurately take your body measurements and apply them to a sewing pattern.
- Pattern Basics: How to read, understand, and cut out a commercial sewing pattern.
- Fabric Prep: How to layout and cut your fabric correctly on the fold.
- Garment Construction: How to piece and sew the pattern panels together.
- Professional Seams: How to finish your edges cleanly using an overlocker or alternative beginner-friendly methods.
- The Final Touches: Master the art of neck binding, pressing, and clean hemming to give your blouse a store-bought finish.

What to Bring:
- Fabric: You are welcome to bring [Insert Yardage, e.g., 1.5 meters] of light to medium-weight woven fabric. Cotton lawn, linen, poplin, or chambray are highly recommended for this pattern.
- Note: Avoid stretchy fabrics (knits/jerseys) or very slippery fabrics (silk/satin) for this beginner session.
- Studio Option: If you don't bring your own, we have a limited selection of woven fabrics available to purchase directly at the studio on the day.
- Thread: One matching spool of all-purpose polyester thread (you can also get a matching spool at the studio if you buy your fabric here).
Skill Level Required:
Confident Beginner. You should know how to thread your sewing machine and sew a straight line. No prior experience making clothes is necessary!

Venue: Tabbey Bobbin Workshops Studio 11, High Bridge Works 31-39 High Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1EW (Located right in the heart of Newcastle's historic, independent city centre)
By Public Transport:
- Metro: We are just a 2-minute walk from Monument Metro Station (take the Grey Street or Central Arcade exit).
- Train: If you are travelling from outside the city, Newcastle Central Station is an easy 7-minute walk away.
- Bus: Main bus routes stopping at Grey Street, Pilgrim Street, or Market Street are just a moment's walk from our door.
By Car & Parking:
- Parking: The closest parking is Heywood’s Court Car Park located directly on High Bridge Street (NE1 1EN). Alternative parking can be found nearby at the Dean Street Car Park or Eldon Garden.
Entry: When you arrive, head into the alleyway where you will see a white door. The buzzer is currently being shy, so please send a quick text to 07453 480080 when you're outside, and I’ll come down to let you in! If you enter the building, I could just wait by the main door; I will come and meet you.
.Studio Policies & Frequently Asked Questions
1. Cancellations & Refunds
- 7+ Days Notice: You are eligible for a full refund (minus any non-refundable Eventbrite processing fees) or a transfer to a future workshop date. To request a date move, please email us at least 7 days in advance.
- Within 7 Days: We are unable to offer refunds for cancellations made within 7 days of the event. However, you are more than welcome to send a friend in your place! Just email us with your name, the workshop date, and the name/email of the person attending so we can update our guest list.
- Extraordinary Circumstances: We understand that life happens. In cases of serious illness or family emergencies, please contact us at [email protected]. We consider these on a case-by-case basis, and all details remain strictly confidential. Approved refunds processed via Eventbrite usually take 3–5 business days (up to 10 days maximum).
2. Cancellations by the Organiser
- Our Commitment: If we have to cancel a class due to low enrolment or instructor illness, we will notify you via email immediately.
- Your Options: You will receive either a 100% refund or a guaranteed spot in a future session. Please note that Tabbey Bobbin Workshops cannot reimburse for outside travel, accommodation, or third-party expenses related to a cancellation.
3. Photography & Social Media
We love sharing the joy of making! By attending, you consent to being photographed or filmed for promotional use (such as Instagram or our website). If you would prefer not to be photographed, just let us know at the start of the session—we will happily respect your privacy.
