Watch the story of the UK’s first Climate Assembly and explore what fairer decision‑making could look like in Scotland.
About this Event

Doing Democracy Differently is our new series of events exploring how Scotland could make political decisions in ways that work better for people and the planet, starting with Citizens' Assemblies.

This event is for 18–35 year olds who don’t feel represented in current politics and want to explore alternatives. You don’t need to know anything about citizens’ assemblies - we’ll introduce the idea through real stories.

We’ll watch The People vs Climate Change, a BBC documentary following people who took part in the UK’s first Climate Assembly. After the film, we’ll have small‑group conversations about what this approach could mean for Scotland and your local communities.

Event details:

  • This event starts at 15:00 - arrive from 14:45 to sign in and grab your free popcorn.
  • The film lasts 1 hour and has English subtitles.
  • The nearest tram/bus stop is McDonald Road.
  • McDonald Road Library is wheelchair accessible.
  • Thanks to funding from the University of Edinburgh’s Community Grant Scheme, we can help cover travel, childcare, or other costs for people joining from Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife or the Borders. Email [email protected] for details.

About the organisers:

2050 Climate Group is a youth-led, volunteer driven charity empowering young people to take action against the climate crisis.

This event is part of the Doing Democracy Differently for People and Planet series which is helping young people explore alternative democratic systems that support community voices and justice in decision making.
