Intro to Wood Carving using Rotary Tools
Schedule
Sun Jun 09 2024 at 01:00 pm to 04:00 pm
UTC-07:00Location
The Crow's Nest Artist Collective | Campbell River, BC
We will begin with discussing the structure of wood and the issues that can present themselves when working with an organic material. We’ll then move on to looking at the tools we’ll be using and having a safety discussion.
The students will then choose from a selection of wood species, select a piece they’d like to work with, transfer their selected design onto the wood, and then get to carving!
A few basic designs will be offered as templates, but if students have a design they’d like to try, we ask that it be emailed to the instructor prior to class for approval, because if the design is too complex, students are unlikely to have success. email for design is [email protected]
At the end of the three hours, students will hopefully (see * below) leave with a handcrafted piece of jewellery that’s sure to be the envy of all their friends, as well having learned a new skill or the start of a new hobby to take up!
All supplies included
Due to limited space, as well as time and safety constraints, this class is limited to only FOUR participants per session, so register now to secure your space!
* We say “hopefully” because wood is an organic material and while we will do our best to complete a project on the day, it is possible that a particular piece of wood simply doesn’t cooperate. If you don’t manage to come away with a finished product, you can make use of The Crow’s Nest’s Open Studio time to come in and try again or schedule a follow-up session with the instructor at no extra cost.
